Clinician Biographies​

Katy McNicholas, MA, ATR, LPC

Katy is a licensed professional counselor and registered art therapist. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Connecticut 

Katy has worked with clients in a variety of settings including community health centers, outpatient clinics, emergency shelters, therapeutic and mainstream schools, hospice, and hospitals. She has treated clients suffering from general stress and overwhelming feelings that come with life changes and transitions, difficulty learning and socializing, and she has provided therapeutic relief to those facing more severe hardships such as trauma and loss. Katy’s approaches to treatment are based on cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy models. Art and expressive therapies are used as a tool to connect and communicate with clients who may be more apprehensive to traditional talk therapies. Katy believes the relationship between client and therapist serves as the foundation for positive change. She strives in meeting the clients where they are at on their journey to healing and promoting and building upon natural strengths, and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, specialization in Art Therapy from Lesley University. 

Rebecca Tydeman, LMFT

Rebecca is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Education from 

the University of South Carolina. She holds a Masters of Family Therapy from Southern Connecticut State University. Rebecca believes that the quality of interpersonal relationships is a primary factor in wellness. She specializes in relational work; couples and family therapy, parenting skills, social skills, grief, and interpersonal effectiveness. Rebecca utilizes modalities including but not limited to CBT, solution focused therapy, structural family therapy, and Gestalt. Rebecca has experience working with clients struggling with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, ADHD, ASD and more. Rebecca values the strong connections she has with her clients as a vehicle for healing and change. She believes in the transformative power of peer support and has experience facilitating many groups including social learning and grief. Rebecca enjoys being active outside, spending time with loved ones and engaging in music. She practices a balanced self-care plan including wellness of mind, body and spirit, and assists clients in creating and maintaining this as well. 

Heather T. Bushey, MAAT, ATR, LPC

Heather is the Founder and Clinical Director of Art Therapy & Creative Counseling, as well as a Nationally, Registered Art Therapist and a Licensed 

Professional Counselor. She holds a Master of Art in Art Therapy from Albertus Magnus College as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a certificate in Art Therapy from School of Visual Arts in NYC. Heather has over ten years of experience working with a diverse range of populations including children, adolescents and adults. Heather uses a holistic treatment approach, including Art Therapy, as a way to enhance the therapeutic process when traditional talk therapy alone is not effective. She has a great amount of experience working with attentional issues, learning disorders, anxiety, adjustment issues, parent support, environmental stressors and work-life balance. She specializes in teens and young adults, with training in Cognitive Behavioral and Behavior Modification therapies as well as Motivational Interviewing. She believes in aiding clients to regain the idea that they can overcome challenges and obstacles. By providing coping strategies and unyielding support.

Dr. Sharon J. Koch, LCSW

Sharon is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with wide-ranging experience in the fields of education and counseling. She holds a doctorate from the 

University of Hartford in Educational Leadership, as well as a Master of Education degree. She is certified as a school social worker in grades K through 12, and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Master of Social Work degree, majoring in group work. Sharon’s experience as a therapist, educator, and dean in college settings has helped many clients navigate issues such as returning to college as an adult learner, feelings of being overwhelmed, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and situational stressors. Sharon is a strong listener and will seek to partner with clients to identify thought and behavior practices that deprive them of meeting their goals. 

Additionally, Sharon has an appreciation for the arts and makes handmade quilts as her personal creative outlet. She respects the mind-body connection and supports nutritional improvements as a key element for feeling better. Sharon is accepting and non-judgmental and will tailor her therapeutic approach so that each individual seeking to reach their goals has an inspired advocate.
